Late Night Session

Can’t sleep, so I checked to see if there was a game going.  There was, at the 10/20 table.

I ran uber hot at the beginning winning about 400 in the first 5 minutes or so.  Then it was back to the same ole stuff.

I gradually bled away my early lead as half the table left and I was left HU.

I ran below average I would say.  My opponent, who is really aggressive was getting more than his share of 2 pair hands and I ended up losing slightly over a pretty up and down HU match.  I was up more than he was up at any time in the match, but of course……my opponent got up when he had the lead.

So after all was said and done, I won $90…….but I am pretty upset that I didn’t win more.

Sorry about not posting last night.  Once I finished my last session last night I was so dead tired, wasn’t in the mood to update the blog.  But to not get too much into detail….

I won $360.50 last night playing nothing but 5 card draw HU SNGs and cash games, but again the cards have just been brutal!!!!!

I am looking forward to another rush of cards.

Total to date is at 10,336.63

Ugh….the picture says it all.

Not only do I feel hungover today, I also feel like I let myself down.  I should not have let myself play poker last night.  I was in no condition to play.  Pretty dissappointed in myself.

But lesson learned.  I did have a great time last night though as I saw some friends that I haven’t seen in a while.  It really brought back memories of the college days.  It almost felt like I was in college all over again.

The celebration is over, for a short while at least; as I have a wedding to go to tomorrow.  I am hoping to put in a few good sessions tonight, sometime tomorrow, and Monday.  Make up for my stupidity of last night and get back on track.

Will post later, hopefully with some good news.

Poker Update

I still have yet to win a seat to the WSOP.  It is getting frustrating, but I am not quite worried as of yet.  One thing I am getting concerned about is where I stand as far as reaching my yearly goals in poker.

I sit and look at my hourly rate in 5 card draw and think about how easy it will be to reach specific goals.  The only problem is the games are sparse.  So I can go a few days without anyone sitting down to play against me.  It is forcing me to do something, what I am not 100 percent sure of yet.

I have mentioned that I want to add a new game to my arsenal.  The one game that might be something I get more into are these 5cd draw HU NL sit-n-gos.  I have played about 80  at this point in time and have averaged winning 2 out of every 3 that I play.  That is actually really good, but I feel I can do better.  I mean I am already winning 2 of 3, and still haven’t really perfected a strategy.  In these 80 sng’s I am not shying away from playing the better players either.  I am taking on all comers.  So it is not like I am only winning 66% of the time against a random fish who decided to try his luck in a new game.  I will admit though, I have run better than not in these sng’s thus far.

If I am going to meet my yearly goal I need to sit back and look at the big picture.  It is really creeping up on “gotta do something now” territory.  This thought is just sitting in the back of my mind as I plug away at trying to win a seat to the WSOP.

The plan is for the next month to continue to try and win a WSOP seat or two which admittedly is taking away from my advancement in other games.  But if I win a few WSOP seats, it will all be worth it.  Then once July comes, this will be the half way point in the year.  I plan on MAKING myself play, and play a ton.

I am thinking about creating a challenge kind of thing.  Something where I will log all my sessions here on this blog for all to see, and to show that winning a certain amount of money over a 6 month period can be done playing mostly 5 card draw.  If I hope to reach my goals on the year, I may just need that extra motivation.

Check back later to see where we go with this.

Also…..you might see a few changes to the site in the next coming days.

I have had a really good month at the 5 card draw tables this month.  I have been playing great and for the most part the luck has been on my side.  I have made 5 figures over the past 30 days from 5 card draw alone, and am really happy about it.

One problem though…..no one will play me now.  I don’t mind it when tough competition isn’t sitting to play, but NO ONE is sitting to play.  In the past, if there was no game going I would sit at a table on PokerStars and eventually someone would sit down with me.  Sometimes it would just be a quick heads-up session.  Other times it would turn into a full ring game.

The last 10 hours + of sitting at the table, no one else has sat down with me.  It is frustrating, since I just want to play.

I guess that is what I get for trying to specialize in a game that is not as popular.  Soooo, it is my goal to specialize in a few other cash games.  I am looking at Badugi, PLO, and limit holdem.  I already know I am a winner in limit holdem at the 2/4 level (4 tabling).  I have played a few PLO sessions in the past, the most recent one I won a few buyins in the matter of about an hour.  I just don’t have enough experience to really tell what my win rate is in PLO.  Badugi, well that is a whole different beast, I have little to no experience in Badugi and I plan on attacking that game the same way I learned 5 card draw.  Do as much research as possible and expand on my findings by working out some stuff on my own.

You will still find me at the 5 card draw tables waiting for competition while I work on my other games.  Also…..I still have plans to win a few WSOP satellites.  So I will also be playing some WSOP stuff.   So far in the WSOP satellites I am 0 for 1, but I have a few months to win a seat.

Been Pretty Focused

I haven’t posted on here in a while mostly because I have been either learning poker or playing poker as much as possible in my spare time.  This last week the hard work was really starting to show.

I made quite a bit at the cash tables over the past week and it is one of my biggest-profit weeks in quite some time.  I am enthusiastic to think that my studying away from the table has helped.  But then again, just to keep myself in check, I could have just been running well.

PokerStars finally rolled out their satellites to the World Series of Poker yesterday.  I already played (and didn’t cash) in one tournament.  But I have about 2 months to win me a seat.  The goal is to hopefully win 3 seats.  1 of which I will be playing the WSOP.  I just hope that I can run good when I need to in these tournaments.  I will be pretty disappointed if I don’t win a seat this year.

So in the next couple of months, I expect more of the same.  To be completely focused on poker.  Win more in the cash games to help pay for my WSOP tournament shots.  I will post here once (and if) I win a seat.
